LIBRARIAN - Mrs. Cynthia Dwyer
|
| I have been an educator since I graduated from UNO in 1971. I began my career as a school librarian in Orleans Parish in 1977. It has been my pleasure to be the librarian at Whispering Forest from the opening of the facility in 1989. It was a great challenge to take a big, empty, but beautiful room and turn it into a library, but I like challenges, and, in my "unbiased" opinion, we now have a wonderful library for the children at Whispering Forest. Through the years at Whispering Forest, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many fine parent volunteers. As well, I have been assisted by a number of talented and hard-working library aides; Mary Burris, Darleen Olson, Donna Landrum, Laurie Kinchen, Deborah Pfeifer, and the current aide, Mrs. Meredith Kettenring. I look forward to many changes in the future. With the increasing emphasis on technology in the parish, there will be more computers in our "Computer Corner." Students will be using the library with greater frequency to borrow AR books and take AR tests. Students will also be using computer technology to complete reports and research work, as well as to search our library's catalog. All this means is that this "old dog" will be continuing to learn some new tricks, something that adds excitement to life. I love my work at Whispering Forest. The administrators, faculty, and staff are friendly, dedicated, and cooperative. Most of all, I love the children. They are the reason I strive to do my best each day to help them achieve their highest potential. |
