MARCH
HAPPENINGS
IN THE LIBRARY

FOCUSING ON STUDY SKILLS

During the month of March, library lessons will continue to focus on study and research skills for second and third graders. These learning experiences will help prepare students to use books and library resources to search for information and find answers to specific questions.

Third graders will be instructed in the use of various reference sources, and will be completing projects and activities to develop and strengthen their skills. Lessons are planned to develop students' abilities to scan text and to navigate their way through an ocean of text to find the island of information they need.

Second graders will be instructed in the various parts of a book and their uses. They will also begin lessons introducing the reference section of the library and the different types of reference sources.

COMING IN APRIL

A FEW WORDS ABOUT BEHAVIOR

Student behavior in the library needs improvement. The children are not following rules that have been in place since they first started coming to the library, nor are they paying attention when directions are given. It is essential that children be attentive in order that they may learn the skills and information being taught.

Also, please stress the importance of behaving respectfully and according to expectations. Help them learn responsibility by taking care of their books, returning library books on time, and by paying fines that are owed.

In doing so, you will help your children build good character, a building block for success in school and in life.
